It just seems evident to me that ISA loves caramel ice cream as much as I do - after all, she’s my daughter

And a little foie gras? I won’t say no - thank you !

So Isa met Jez in Basel and with her, and Julien and Tina, Isa discovered another form of transport . . the cable car to add to cars, buses, trams and trains. She who loves water also discovered some flooded cities and I believe she even dragged Tina into an inappropriate "puddle".

Isa is certainly getting a busier and more interesting variation of things to do on her "holiday" in Basel. She took a tram-ride today. !
Judging by the angle of her ears - she's a bit stressed despite snuggling between Julien's legs !
Picture
Picture
Isa has always been one of the most beautiful puppies I have produced . . . . viewed from above and beside her, as a true judge. But the underside is really rather nice too. Now this is called "evaluating the whole dog"
Picture
Isa has arrived in Eygalières and has adopted her new garden. I think the swimming pool is forbidden - for now !

ISA has left for Basel with Julien & Tina. Somewhat heart-wrenching for me but she needs some stimulus and socialising that I can't give her. Stay of an undetermined duration but if she continues to hone her Carpenter Labrador skills she might just be back by next week.

Lovely to get an update on Isa after 24 hours in Basel and an emotional and exhausting day. Watching television with Julien this evening and then flaked out. I had a chat with her on a video call this afternoon and she was puzzled as to where I was (behind the sofa she thought).

6 Months
SA (Revolution 1930 of T.W.) has her 6 months "birthday" today.. . . . . . I love her to the moon and back.
9 generations in 43 years down from CH. Kupros Lucifer, my first BLACK dog (1977), grand-daughter of Multi CH. Carromer's Charlie Chalk (1991) and Foulby Still Talking (2009), grand-daughter of CH. Falling In Love of T.W. (2010) and daughter of Lalitpur of T.W. and Never Give Up of T.W.
Another little miracle, the one and only puppy born from insemination and by C-section a week too early, unable to digest, no fur on ears or paws and a bloated face like a hippopotamus . . . and look at her now !
My one thousand nine hundred and thirtieth puppy . . . .

4 Months
Isa, partially abandoned because of the puppies, the mothers, and Remedy, turned 4 months on January 14th. She's retaliating by chewing tables, chairs,, the solid wood doors, destoying mops, and anything, she can now reach on the counter . . and she has stretchability on that level. And she pees and poos anywhere she chooses. and does what she wants irrespective of the rules. A Never Before situation.

7 Weeks
Well, of course, judged at 7 weeks, she may not end up growing into what I want. I may have to cry my eyes out and let her go. For now she's my fusional little treasure, hoped for, and tried for, for two years. The most expensive puppy I have ever produced grand-daughter to Foulby Still Talking and Ch. Falling in Love of T.W. and also grand-daughter to Multi Dual Ch. Carromer's Charlie Chalk and Have One On Me of T.W.

REVOLUTION 1930 (aka: Isa) is now 40 days' "old" and had a little foray outside when the sun came out this afternoon. She's still small and a little "different" from the others with whom she lives and hasn't quite caught up size-wise or weight-wise. But her digestion is now normal and she has a very healthy appetite.
She has responded well to tender loving care.

ISA takes selfies ! I never do, (don't like them), but she got her little paw firmly on the i-phone and said she wanted to say hello to the world. I pointed out to her that she was covered in egg custard, having very poor table manners, but she insisted.
So here is "I'm Still Alive", officially "Revolution 1930 of T.W.", the little spoilt brat who almost didn't make it. 29 days' old. She firmly believes that I'm her biological mummy. I almost believe it too !

4 Weeks
4 weeks old today. It's been an incredible task to arrive where we are today when Poffy has almost no milk and above all, no maternal fibre at all. So, so different from her mother, grandmother, and half-sister Meg.
But the biggest worry has been ISA, insemination too early, C-section several, days too early and a very, very bad start - no fur on face, ears or paws at birth and unable to digest the puppy milk. Fortunately she loves her various medecines and adores having her tummy massaged. Her eyes opened a full week after the Poffies. Another proof of her being premature. But she's a little fighter !
Everything is now a whole lot easier and they're all doing well. I can now breathe again !

26 Days
26 days' old - And the Poffies & Isa were "grounded" today - more space, a different vision of their little world, toys and a mother who can no longer be the wrong side of the whelping box (because it's gone).

24 Days
Poffy decided that it wasn't worth sitting down, even less lying down, for the 2 minutes she allows herself a visit to the puppies.
They had trouble balancing on the tip of their toes (back feet toes only, like little ballet-dancers) trying to reach the teats - but once on them they are glued and finally, resigned, Poffy sits down. For 30 seconds.
Yala takes immense interest in the puppies and particularly in Isa - probably only because she is very much with me, fed separately and has tummy-massage and medication for her digestion.
Looking forward to grounding them on Saturday and then letting Yala join Poffy in the pen so that she can enjoy the puppies too.
Post scriptum : Isa ate in a bowl tonight under Yala's strict care.

22 Days
Incredible what they can achieve in 22 days chrono ! And I'm not talking about their weight.
They observe, understand, have learned to eat in a bowl correctly, take decisions, run, jump, try to climb out, play together, wag their tails and lick my face.
And after three weeks of bottle-feeding they know who Mummy is !

20 Days
Table manners improving. Egg custard well accepted.
Photo this afternoon - 04/10/20 at 2.30 p.m. - got the date wrong !

Looking forward to the end of bottle-feeding - it's been a real very tiring and occupying job for the last 20 days. 5 X 7 puppies every 24 hours. But if the proof of the pudding is in the eating (so to speak). . . they've benefitted enormously 🤣👍

18 Days
Poffies & Isa on day 18 - OH WHAT A MESS ! - first Egg Custard. Nothing new here - it takes them a couple of days to learn civilized table manners.

Isa's eyes are just opening this morning. Which didn't stop her from being one of the first to eat in the bowl. She's the small one after Yellow and Turquoise moving up from the right.

17 Days
REVOLUTION OF T.W., aka I.S.A. (which stands for I'm Still Alive) It's been touch and go at the start with a C-section way too early and both a mother with no milk at all, and an adoptive mother with almost no milk, and 6 babies of her own.

Isa's a tough girl, and she knows what she wants. The Poffies had their eyes open at 13 days. Isa's eyes are still not open, at 17 days . A clear indication that she was snatched from her mother way too soon. She had no fur on her ears or on her paws and legs at birth.

2 Weeks

Not really happy that ISA (Revolution) is so much smaller and has put on so little weight. Particularly as she loves the bottle. However she is active and seems O.K.
What a relief to get the milk on Saturday - by Sunday mid-day the tub I already had was empty !

Just very slightly under double her birth-weight. So she's catching up with 5 to 6 bottle feeds a day

Isa (I'm Still Alive), Yala's singleton, always has to find herself a pillow. The art of being comfortable.
Picture

Picture
I don't need to make a comment - her face says it all. I've had a bitch with no milk who spent hours in the whelping box polishing her eleven puppies and loving them. Mimi had seven "active" teats and produced 12 puppies in 2008 while I was in chemotherapy and radiotherapy - They kept me alive, I had absolutely no time to think about my problems. I've had bitches with little milk who never left the whelpng box and had to be dragged out by force. I once brought a bitch back from England and she made a downright refusal for the mating, which turned into a sort of rape. She was a horror story for the whelping and was a non-existant mother. She went to a pet home once the puppies were weaned. I just read this post to Poffy with emphasis on the final paragraph.

One difficult week - now over (hopefully).
A miracle - at 2 o'clock this morning I tried bottle-feeding and they all decided to cooperate. Ditto at 6.30 a.m. And thus one sees a sudden surge in weight-gain today. ONE WEEK OLD. They should have doubled their birth-weight. But I'm grateful for small mercies, things have improved slightly.
Poffy is less and less keen to feed, nurse and clean, and hops out whenever I turn my back and she thinks I'm out of earshot. I'm not.

Day 6 and it's incomprehensible why the puppies refuse the bottle when, very obviously Poffy does not have adequate milk. They don't cry and are active but at one week they should double their birthweight. That will be tomorrow and roughly they'll be at only +25%
As for ISA (Yala's little Revolution aka "I'm Still Alive" = ISA) - she has not even regained her birthweight. Though I do have some doubts about the Vet's scales for I weighed her at birth at the clinic (480 gms) and since then she is on my scales, and today at only 472 gms at 6 days ! Maybe the Vet's scales and mine are not on the same wave-length !
This is anxiety at it's highest level.
👍

Day 4. It was on day 4 that I lost Joy's single baby, created and born in the same manner as Revolution. So this was a morning of anxiety. A single puppy born by C-section done too early is hard-going on the puppy's development and serenity. Luckily she has an adoptive mother and adoptive siblings. I am hovering over this baby and feeding her as though my life depended on it.
Things are improving for all of them and I decided to make a collar for Miss R. this morning. I don't want her to feel "different" because she has no collar. Collar in keeping with her name❤️👍

16/09/2020
Difficult time - Revolution has lost a lot of weight and the 6 others are doing better today than yesterday but none is very keen on the artificial milk.
So I'm standing on my head, upsidedown, a lot of the day, clutching puppies in each hand and juggling them with the smallest baby to the most prolific teat and the greediest and biggest to the least prolific ones.
It's a fine art !

Safely passed the night - hard-going for the human that I sometimes am - but seven puppies (thus including Miss Revolution) beautifully cared for by Poffy. How lucky to have this caring young mother to adopt Miss R. and keep her snug, warm, clean and fed with her own six babies.

14/09/2020
Today's 14/09/2020 . . . . Yala's C-section, at the Vet's dead (no alive) on 9 a.m. and they kept Yala and sent me home saying they'd call when they were ready to operate. Called at 10.45 and I rushed over to take care of my baby. Hoping against hope that this one-and-only would be a girl to keep.
No fur on ears and feet means that she was not quite ready to meet the world, but her bluish tongue became pink after massage and the infra-red lamp.
Then I rushed her home and held her on Poffy's teat for 45 minutes because she's not good at holding her own yet, before dashing back to the Vet to pick up Yala and bring her home. Yala has no milk.
The plan - if it works - is to put Yala's baby with Poffy's 2 boys all 3 with Yala, and leave the 4 Poffy girls with their mother. Then at 4 weeks they'll all share the same pen - the 2 mothers and the 7 babies.
I can't believe my luck - Poffy gets 2 more babies than expected and Yala (LALITPUR OF T.W. X NEVER GIVE UP OF T.W.) have given me a girl . . . REVOLUTION OF T.W. !

The start - Le début

July 14th - a special day in France 🇫🇷. Definitely a special day for me and, interviewed on the subject, Yala confirmed that it was for her too. What kind of a person goes off on holiday from Paris to Marseille and the day after arriving climbs back into a train for 5 hours and leaves for Geneva ? Arriving at 10.30 p.m. Waiting at the station, uneasily squashed between a plethora of taxis, some overweight trams and a multitude of unmasked revellers I picked him up and we drove home. All was quiet on the Labrador front and we sat and addressed the world's most important problems and drank G&T till 2 a.m.
This morning, when I'd finished the dogs and Alain had finished breakfast we attacked the issue of getting Yala inseminated. Of course being a National Holiday there was no Vet open with whom to check the motility and density of the sperm so we just went ahead once in the morning and once in the early afternoon with two insemintions directly into the uterus. Something I could never have done. By 4 p.m. we were on our way back to the station in Geneva in heavy traffic for the train back to Marseille at 5.30. 19 pretty hectic hours here and add ten hours of train for Alain. Yala's progesterone level had shot up to 4,9 ng yesterday (15,9 nm).
So what kind of a person ? Well, the most efficient (Professor and specialist in reproduction) and the kindest (24 years of friendship). The dogs love him. I love him. And there's no "thank you" big enough to fit this day. ❤️Now all we can do is hope . . . .

This is the face I put on when humans are monkeying around with my back end, sticking metal rods up me, taking blood from my arm and making me look and feel ridiculous with my back legs up in the air, AND they gave me my "breakfast" at 7 o'clock tonight (sigh)
