86 CACIB is probably not a record for I never went into showing to beat a record or beat anyone else, but it still is a lot of winning at a time when there was much more competition than now. When a CACIB show had 250/300 entries and a simple CAC show 80/150 entries and the club show 500 entries ! Winning actually meant something and particularly as reputable and knowledgeable international judges were invited. Those were indeed exciting days.
An extraordinary start to a show career to go BIS at a very big International show in Lille at just 15 months. Set the bar high for the future but he never disappointed !
Called into line at 8h30 and eliminated five minutes later. First duck down and Lucifer dragged his (unwilling) handler into the freezing lake. Years later at another Field trial in Belgium I was asked whether I'd ever heard about the English woman dragged into the water by her unsteady dog. How to become a legend in your own lifetime in one easy lesson !
Pêche took the CAC-CACIB and became World Champion. And yes it was the one and only year (1984) that I know of that it was an official title which appeared on the pedigree.
Yes that's my Pêche, on the right. Brilliant bitch. She must have been. Trained by me and a RCACT when handled by me - only an exceptionally talented girl could reach those heights with me in tow !
And BOB under Gwen also in Denmark at the Jubilee Show in April 1984 !
