Missy's babies "bit the dust" today at 4 weeks - horizons are widening and the whelping box is gone. And two good meals a day much appreciated

No, you're not ! This is MISSY feeding BUBBLES' babies.
As you can see the Missys, who hit the ground today at just on 4 weeks, are eating well and Missy's milk supply being generous - as is her nature too - she's lending a "helping teat" to Bubbles who's finding NINE mouths a lot with which to cope.

Blue is now MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT OF T.W. (O.K., O.K., I know I'm considered as "difficult" but though he was born at 2.10 p.m. I accepted his name !) He has gone to join Annette in the south-west of France. His forebears, much loved by Annette, Starry Nights of T.W. and Sunny Days of T.W., born in 2001 have now crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
MERRILY SHALL I LIVE NOW OF T.W. (Green) will leave on sunday for California, U.S.A., that's a looooong ride home. She'll follow in the paw-prints of Peter The Wolf of T.W. born in 1999 and who crossed the Rainbow Bridge this year.
Missy puppy who is staying (orange) . . . she now has a name : "My Decision, My Choice, My Joy of Tintagel Winds". Call name (which she learned in 2 seconds) is "JOY".
She's a little unhappy at the minute after saying goodbye, first to her two brothers on friday, and then to her sister yesterday.
But in another two weeks I'll have chosen the girl I'll be keeping in Bubbles litter - so she'll have company.

Time to go home!
How incredibly fast these 8 weeks have flown. The four babies are now "proper little dogs". Vaccinated and micro-chipped yesterday morning, the bench photos were taken three hours later in a high wind and their eyes were a bit droopy. But the weather is now so capricious that I had to seize the moment as this morning the two boys were to hit the road . . . home.
There's always a part of heart-ache when they go after 8 weeks of total immersion (mine). But I can see that they each need a family and I love their families, most of whom are already T.W. people.
The four Missys now all in their new lives, just poor little Joy who's stuck here, glued to me (I glued her) !

Trophies are usually eye-filling rubbish good for binning, titles look fine (in red) on pedigrees. But in the end what makes a breeder happy is the satisfaction and loyalty of those who take your dogs. And then come back, again and again to open a new chapter in their Labrador Book when a chapter closes and their lives are empty again. Peter The Wolf lived almost 17 years and called Africa "home" before calling the U.S.A. his home, and then he crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Merrily Shall I Live Now will walk in his paw-prints, I hope with as long, loving and interesting a life as he before her had. And my humble gratitude to Laurent for making the round trip Los Angeles-Sciez-Los Angeles over the weekend "just for a dog". |
