7 Weeks
Seven weeks today - a very dissipated bunch of puppies and none of my special noises got me seven heads facing forward.
However they're better than nothing and it's been a dry day. As of tomorrow it's rain again, so I may not get another chance before they leave.
Revolution 1930 (aka ISA) - on the left -will be staying.

Five weeks' old/young . . . and a day of nail clipping, worming and weighing, and hugging and chatting*. And just a few shots to show the change. *With the puppies and the mothers of course, no masks or social distancing required !
Very satisfied with the weight - after 4 weeks of everyday weighing, I pass to once a week, and it's difficult the first week not to give in to daily weighing. The recompense is today when I see that everyone has gained correctly.

4 weeks old today. It's been an incredible task to arrive where we are today when Poffy has almost no milk and above all, no maternal fibre at all. So, so different from her mother, grandmother, and half-sister Meg.
Everything is now a whole lot easier and they're all doing well. I can now breathe again !

26 days' old - And the Poffies & Isa were "grounded" today - more space, a different vision of their little world, toys and a mother who can no longer be the wrong side of the whelping box (because it's gone).

24 Days
Poffy decided that it wasn't worth sitting down, even less lying down, for the 2 minutes she allows herself a visit to the puppies.
They had trouble balancing on the tip of their toes (back feet toes only, like little ballet-dancers) trying to reach the teats - but once on them they are glued and finally, resigned, Poffy sits down. For 30 seconds.
Looking forward to grounding them on Saturday and then letting Yala join Poffy in the pen so that she can enjoy the puppies too.

Incredible what they can achieve in 22 days chrono ! And I'm not talking about their weight.
They observe, understand, have learned to eat in a bowl correctly, take decisions, run, jump, try to climb out, play together, wag their tails and lick my face.
And after three weeks of bottle-feeding they know who Mummy is !

Table manners improving. Egg custard well accepted.
There's always ONE trying to be different - generally, like this one, in escape-mode, moaning "How do I get out of here ?". Answer : "You don't !"
Looking forward to the end of bottle-feeding - it's been a real very tiring and occupying job for the last 20 days. 5 X 7 puppies every 24 hours. But if the proof of the pudding is in the eating (so to speak). . . they've benefitted enormously 🤣👍

Poffy has moments when she feels she should be with the puppies and I find her thus, calmly attentive. So it becomes difficult to know whether the puppies don't want the bottle because they've had their mother. Or whether they are just being tiresome !!! But so long as they are fat and tiresome - I'm O.K. with that

Proud of my babies - ten days old today. A very difficult start with a mother who has no milk and very little interest in cleaning and supervising her progeny and her adoptive daughter. Only one Pof and Isa are just very slightly under double their birth-weight. So they are catching up with 5 to 6 bottle feeds a day (42 feeds per 24 hrs for me, the bottle-filler)
Very upset that Skinners aren't sending puppy milk abroad any more (alledgedly because of Covid, though I fail to see the relation). Amazon aparently neither and the site Skinners sent me to saying there'd be no problem . . . . aren't sending either. Which means that in about two to three days I'm going to have to find a substitute and everyone knows that kids and puppies hate changes in their routine and their habits. Not happy.

Thanks to Nicky's and Paul's immense help □ the milk has arrived. Amazon was dead on time with delivery but there are certain strange and uncomprehensible factors that none of us can understand. For out of the blue (ha ! ha !) I am the beneficiary of these factors and not the victim. □

A miracle - at 2 o'clock this morning I tried bottle-feeding and they all decided to cooperate. Ditto at 6.30 a.m. And thus one sees a sudden surge in weight-gain today. ONE WEEK OLD. They should have doubled their birth-weight. But I'm grateful for small mercies, things have improved slightly.
Poffy is less and less keen to feed, nurse and clean, and hops out whenever I turn my back and she thinks I'm out of earshot. I'm not.

It's incomprehensible why the puppies refuse the bottle when, very obviously Poffy does not have adequate milk. They don't cry and are active but at one week they should double their birthweight. That will be tomorrow and roughly they'll be at only +25%

The 6 are doing better today than yesterday but none is very keen on the artificial milk.
So I'm standing on my head, upsidedown, a lot of the day, clutching puppies in each hand and juggling them with the smallest baby to the most prolific teat and the greediest and biggest to the least prolific ones.
It's a fine art !

Safely passed the night - hard-going for the human that I sometimes am - but seven puppies (thus including Miss Revolution) beautifully cared for by Poffy. How lucky to have this caring young mother to adopt Miss R. and keep her snug, warm, clean and fed with her own six babies.

Murphy's Law, of course - Poffy's temperature shoots down the evening before Yala has to be at the Vet for her C-section by 9 a.m. So a pretty horrendous night with no sleep whatsoever and the first Poffy puppy at 4.30 a.m. I sat on the hardest and most uncomfortable chair beside the girls so as not to fall asleep. I didn't. It's a good thing, since I lost N°6 in the Never/O.P.I. litter because the Vets swore there were just precisely five, and I believed them . . . that I don't believe them any more. They said Poffy had FOUR.
And four there were. Only an hour after N°4 came N°5, and an hour after N°5 came N°6. So Poffy (PANTS ON FIRE OF T.W.) and Chatterbox (FOULBY STILL TALKING) are the proud parents of four girls and two boys. Looks as though she's going to be an excellent mother, as was her mother Bubbles and her grandmother Mimi. Total devotion.
